What are Wall Ties?
Cavity wall ties (sometimes called brick wall ties) are metal components that tie the internal and external leaves of a cavity wall together. These ties are added during construction, and the ends of the ties are bedded into the mortar bed at regular intervals.

The wall ties span the cavity, tying the load-bearing inner leaf to the outer leaf. Wall ties impart stability to the outer leaf, holding the wall in place. They are also designed to accommodate small movements from temperature fluctuations, and prevent outside water transfer.

When they Need Replacing
Cavity wall tie failure can be caused by either corrosion over time or down to an issue with the construction and installation of the ties. A lot of properties would need either additional remedial wall ties, or a full replacement of the original cavity wall ties.
